Becca King of Aurora Small Business Consulting

I help small business owners make clearer, more confident decisions by turning the realities of their day-to-day operations into practical direction.

Most owners have a strong grasp of their business, but some parts are harder to manage than others. I help bring structure and clarity to those pressure points, while also highlighting the strengths that can support growth. I tailor my approach to each client, focusing on realistic solutions that fit the business, its capacity, and available resources. I enjoy digging into the numbers and building custom reporting for clarity, as much as I enjoy stepping back to see the full operational picture and creating strategy for smoother, more effective operations.

What made you decide to start your business?

I came from the corporate world and wanted to use my skills in a way that aligned more closely with my values. Working with small businesses turned out to be a great fit. I get to partner with a wide range of owners who know their work deeply and care about doing it well. Small businesses also play a meaningful role in their communities and local economies, which makes the work feel purposeful. When a business becomes more stable and resilient, the benefits extend beyond the owner to the people and community around them.

What is one of your great success stories, or a recent project you're proud of?

A recently completed project I’m really excited about is a white paper and suite of practical tools and guides I developed to support small, independent restaurants. Funded by National Grid, the work allowed me to combine national industry research with firsthand insights from local operators to understand the pressures food service businesses are navigating today.

What made this project meaningful is that it was designed to be usable, not theoretical. I translated the research into tools and recommendations that reflect the time constraints, margin pressure, and operational realities that came up again and again in the interviews. The result is a set of clear, operator ready resources that help restaurants strengthen day to day operations, improve resilience, and make informed decisions without adding cost or complexity.
All of the materials, including the research and practical guides, are available on my website for free, so any business can access and benefit from the work regardless of size or budget.

Any exciting plans for the future?: I have some exciting things in the pipeline but nothing I am ready to share yet!

What else should we know about you or your business? Is there something that would surprise people about what you do?:

Something that often surprises people about my work is how logical and intuitive it can be. The insights can be hard to reach on your own, but with focused guidance, the parts of running a business that feel big or intimidating usually have clear logic behind them. With the right structure, they become manageable and can be approached through straightforward, practical strategy.
