Investor Spotlight: Talia Miller of Skylight Hypnotherapy
Talia Miller of Skylight Hypnotherapy
Meet Talia Miller, Practitioner/Owner at Skylight Hypnotherapy at CLINIC Alternative Medicines! After her own experience with hypnotherapy left her feeling empowered and energized, Miller felt the call to bring that sense of relief and satisfaction to others — and has now been in business for a year doing just that.
Tell us a bit about what you do — what services you provide? I provide hypnotherapy at CLINIC Alternative Medicines and I offer sessions online. I focus on helping kids, teens, and families, but I also work with adults of all ages. I see clients in sixty-minute sessions to help them gain mental health tools to deal with stress, anxiety, and other challenging habits. I aim to make sessions for my younger clients fun and to bring relaxation to my older clients. Most clients see me for a total of 3 - 5 sessions and leave feeling like they've made significant changes.
What made you decide to start your business? Hypnotherapy helped me change habits more rapidly than anything else I'd tried. After a few sessions , several things just seemed to fall into place, including relief from chronic pain I'd been dealing with for 20 years! I had tried many modalities for relief from challenging habits and that chronic pain, but nothing else left me feeling as empowered as hypnotherapy.
I wanted to offer that relief and sense of empowerment to other people, especially young people. I've worked with youth in various roles for 25 years and I was concerned about the rise in mental health issues in kids. Many of my adult clients tell me that they wish they'd had these tools when they were younger.
Hypnotherapy works so well because we find ways to relax your self consciousness. From there, we can work directly with your unconscious mind, which habits reside. When we change the patterns that the unconscious mind relies on, habit change can happen more easily than you'd ever imagined. Hypnotherapy is great for all kinds of issues ranging from anxiety, to sports and school performance, to public speaking, to addictions like smoking or emotional eating.
What is one of your great success stories, or a recent project you're proud of? I've helped a lot of young people who were dealing with anxiety. For some of these families, anxiety was holding their child back for attending school or participating in social activities. People often come to see me because their lives feel completely driven by dealing with their child's anxiety.
I recently worked with a family that had a middle school child who was fainting when she became overwhelmed in sports or social situations. Their family doctor ruled out any medical concerns and told them it was anxiety-related. After working together in just a single session, this client felt empowered enough to return to her activities. Sometimes the adults in the family are in awe of the progress we make, but for the kid, it's pretty simple to change once they begin to work with their unconscious minds.
Any exciting plans for the future? May is Mental Health Month and I'm offering four 60-minute workshops for adults on Sunday mornings. This is a great way to try out hypnotherapy at an affordable price. I'll also be increasing my hours in the summer to meet the rising demand of my clients.
What else should we know about you or your business? Are there any fun facts about your business, or something that would surprise people about what you do? Sometimes people associate hypnotherapy with stage hypnosis. What I do really isn't like that, although sometimes people feel like the work we do together is a little bit magic. That "magic" is actually rooted in science and I love tying the neuroscience into what I do. Many years ago I worked in a neuroscience lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which sparked my fascination with the brain.
I also sometimes hear that people think that only certain people can be hypnotized, but in the hypnotherapy I do, the only thing you need is to be investing in changing! Anyone can benefit from hypnotherapy.
