Tell us a bit about what you do at Allura. I am a builder and carver of illuminated foam pumpkin art pieces to be viewed outdoors at night in Autumn along a walking path. Not your typical "Halloween" show, this is more a fantasy art stroll with lights and sounds. From designing the next scene to executing a complicated carving, each day is filled with creative decisions designed to build the best in carved pumpkin art! Photoshop illustrations, arranging "forever" pumpkins into a large assemblages, painting, lighting, and then carving - all tasks required for unforgettable art.

What made you decide to start your business? I was working as an art director at ABC News in NYC when I carved a "headless horseman" into a real pumpkin for my son's Autumn school celebration in the NY suburbs. That evening, I was approached by the creative director of the renowned pumpkin art show "The Blaze" in Sleepy Hollow, NY, and was asked if I could do larger and more complicated pieces. I gave it my best shot and in short order was asked to design and build an entire show for them! During the two years of the pandemic I built them two shows out of my garage and started selling additional work around the country. I realized at that moment that I had found my true skill-set and the timing was right to produce my own show.

What is one of your great success stories, or a recent project you're proud of? After relocating to the Pioneer Valley in 2025, I had a workshop built and sought out a venue for my work. I was directed to Look Memorial Park in Florence. The setting is perfect and the team there are excited to host my work in their Wildlife Center for October 2026. Entitled "ALLURA - Pumpkin Art Spectacular", I'm now super busy getting all the parts together for a memorable event during select weekend evenings in October.

As this is the inaugural show at Look park, I have high hopes it will become a wonderful annual tradition with further pieces added with more complicated enhancements. I have finally found the complete use of all my talents and am thrilled to display this work for families to visit.

What else should we know about you or your business? Are there any fun facts about your business, or something that would surprise people about what you do? These "forever" pumpkins are polyurethane foam made from molds of real pumpkins. They look super real and permit detailed carving without decaying or attracting animals so, if properly cared for, they can last for years. The real trick is figuring out how to assemble them in such a way that the artwork really holds one's attention. So far I have combined over 400 hundred pumpkins into the scenes for this year's show.
